ICT & Teleworking essays
ICT & Teleworking essays Teleworking can benefit the individual in numerous ways. Working from home avoids both the high costs and stress often associated with commuting to work. It also allows a certain amount of comfort that cannot be achieved in an office environment, as you are working in your own native environment, the home. Teleworking gives more flexibility, especially in working hours, or working in other locales. For example, work can be done at night, or in smaller segments throughout the day, etc. or while travelling. However, there are also disadvantages to teleworking. Being at home, there are numerous possible distractions, especially normal house life, family, television, etc. These distractions, and absence of supervision, can hinder motivation; thus, the quality of work may deteriorate. The lack of a properly defined working environment can make it hard to escape from the home environment, and the boundaries between them become blurred. The lack of social interaction and support withdraw the teleworker from society, and essentially the second family of work colleagues. Additionally, the costs of resources, equipment, heating and lighting, etc. have to be paid at the workers expense. Teleworking primarily benefits the organisation financially. It cuts the cost of resources (equipment, power, etc.) and expensive property, a substantial cost of running a business, allowing it to be invested elsewhere. Because business is not dependent on location, there is a much larger recruitment area, as workers can be employed who live many miles, or even time zones, away. The lack of centralisation also means the organisation itself is more flexible and not reliant on one locale. On the other hand, because the workers are not centralised, it is hard to maintain quality of work or ensure that workers do not go off on a tangent. The lack of supervision can decrease motivation, affecti ...

The General Ulysses Grants Union Research Paper
The General Ulysses Grants Union - Research Paper Example Further, the African Americansââ¬â¢ contributions made a huge impact on the lives of all African Americans starting from 1861 until todayââ¬â¢s 21st century. The war focused on the possibility of forcing the Southern statesââ¬â¢ white Americans to free their slaves. Many African American soldiers received their share of the Medal of Honor. The African Americans were granted freedom after the war. The African American slaves were happily discharged from their Southern White masters. The present-day beneficiaries include Singer Mariah Carrey, President Obama, and L.A Lakersââ¬â¢ basketball star Kobe Bryant. à Furthermore, there are many unanswered queries to be researched. One of the questions is: what would have happened if the Confederate leaders had won the Civil War? Second, do the current African American residents of the United States feel they are on equal status as the White Americans? Third, another research should answer the question: Do the African Americans have better fighting abilities compared to the White Americans during the American Civil War compared to the white Americans? à The slavery issued triggered the American Civil war. The Republican Partyââ¬â¢s President Abraham Lincoln spearheaded the political partyââ¬â¢s ideology that all men should be treated equally, espousing the emancipation of the African American slaves. The Northern states espoused freeing the slaves. The Southern States opposed the freeing of the slaves. Both sides of the war used African Americans to help their causes. The General Ulysses Grant led the northern statesââ¬â¢ Union army. General Robert Lee led the Southern statesââ¬â¢ Confederate army. Both sides of the war experimented using African American soldiers and civilians in their war campaign.

Affect and Open Shale Rock Essay Example for Free
Affect and Open Shale Rock Essay The past few days in class we have been learning about the process of fracking and how it is either harmful, or useful to our nation. There are numerous arguments for both sides that specify pros and cons for fracking and if fracking should be legal to operate. Fracking is known as hydraulic fracturing with the use of sand, water, and chemicals that are injected at high pressures to blast open shale rock and release the trapped gas inside. The process of fracking starts with drilling a hole deep in the earthââ¬â¢s surface until it reaches natural gas. From there they can start the operation and retrieve the natural gas. Oil and gas companies that use fracking state that it is very safe and does not harm the environment. On the other hand fracking has been reported to cause risks to air, land, water, wildlife, and communities by other sources, rather than the oil and gas companies. According to Josh Fox a journalist who directed ââ¬Å"Gaslandâ⬠a 2010 documentary found that fracking is making people sick, contaminating water, and affecting wildlife. Yes, fracking can have some positive aspects, but the cons out way the pros drastically. Fracking is bad for our environment and can harm many individuals near fracking sites, or affect their land, and animals. Therefore, regulations and safety should be improved for fracking to stop all the negative aspects from happening, or ban fracking as a whole. Families near fracking zones have terrible headaches and even very serious sicknesses ever since the fracking started. Fracking uses more than 596 chemicals which are released into the ground through a pipe. Drilling can intersect with underground water which would mix the 596 chemicals with that causing contaminated water. Households are affected by this because their water comes out multicolored ranging from musky grey to black. At some Houses Josh Fox visited they were able to set their water on fire. In the documentary he used a lot of emotional appeal to show how hard families are being affected by this tragic event, and shows how tough getting through a day is becoming without getting some type of sickness. Fracking also affects wildlife and land by contaminating water streams and the soil animals live on. In one scene of ââ¬Å"Gaslandâ⬠Josh Fox went to a ladies house where she had collected dead animals around her land. These animals were not present until the fracking started, and then after that they just started falling dead. There were other cases of people going into streams or even using their own house water that gave them sores, and harsh rashes throughout their body. In the documentary this showed a very effective way of getting people attention and underlining how important this is. In the other documentary ââ¬Å"Fracknationâ⬠directed by Phelim McAleer he shows why fracking is important and how it is safe for our environment. The only positive aspect of fracking is it would help our nation out a ton with gas, lower prices drastically, and we would be the leading natural gas supplier in the world. This documentary didnââ¬â¢t really catch my attention that much because why would all these cases of sicknesses and contaminated water pop up right when fracking became big. If fracking became safe and didnââ¬â¢t harm anything in the environment then it would be the greatest idea ever invented. Coming up with new regulations to improve fracking and make it 100 percent safe would be the only reason I would accept the concept of fracking. As of right now fracking is very harmful to many, and the chemicals used are being released in the atmosphere, and in the soil which is contaminating many things and affecting the quality of the air. Fracking is not safe for anyone or anything located near a fracking zone.

Waste Land Essay: Eliots Use of Different Speakers -- T.S. Eliot Wast
Eliot's Use of Different Speakers in The Waste Land à à à Different speakers in "The Waste Land" mirror the disjointedness of modern experience by presenting different viewpoints that the reader is forced to put together for himself. This is similar to the disassociation in modern life in that life has ceased to be a unified whole: various aspects of 20th-century life -- various academic disciplines, theory and practice, Church and State, and Eliot's "disassociation of sensibilities," or separation of heart and mind -- have become separated from each other, and a person who lives in this time period is forced to shore these fragments against his or her ruins, to borrow Eliot's phrase, to see a picture of an integrated whole. à Different speakers not only present different viewpoints, but also mirror different aspects of the modern cultural experience. This not only presents a group of varying viewpoints, but also a sort of anthropological description of post-World War II Europe. For instance, Eliot gives a picture of the rootlessness experienced by many Europeans in line...

The War on drugs Essay
The War on drugs has been ongoing in America for over 30 years, but it hasnââ¬â¢t been working out the way people thought it would be. Iââ¬â¢m against the the ââ¬Å"Warâ⬠on drugs. The ââ¬Å"Warâ⬠on drugs is ineffective and needs to changed. The ââ¬Å"Warâ⬠on drugs needs to be changed because it costs the government way too much money. According to Havardââ¬â¢s Jeffrey A. Miron an economist, and doctoral candidate Katherine Waldock, in the U.S alone legalizing drugs would save roughly 41.3 billion per year in government expenditure on enforcement of prohibition (Bandow, 2011). This means that the government could save a lot of money if they would just stop the ââ¬Å"Warâ⬠on drugs. Alcohol and tobacco are more dangerous than some illegal drugs. According to Professor David Nutt of Britainââ¬â¢s Bristol University and colleagues, heroin, crack and crystal meth are deadliest to individual user, but when their wider social effects are taken into account, alcohol is the most damaging, followed by heroin and crack (Hunter, 2010). This means that more people are using alcohol than heroin or crack because of that alcohol has cause more damage to people; the governments just being hypocrites about the ââ¬Å"W arâ⬠, theyââ¬â¢re fighting something that are less dangerous than the things that already are legal. The current drug laws promote additional crime. According to The Cato Instituteââ¬â¢s David Boaz and Timothy Lynch, addicts commit crimes to pay for a habit that would be easily affordable if it were legal (Bandow, 2011). This mean that people are committing crimes to get the money so they can pay for the drugs at a high price in the black market. Overall the ââ¬Å"Warâ⬠on drugs hasnââ¬â¢t been helping people in the U.S at all. See more:à Capital budgeting essay Drug use may not be wise, and it could even cause death. However, the ââ¬Å"Warâ⬠on drugs has cause the U.S turn into a prison state, putting more Americans in prison each and everyday. According to Lisa Trei at Stanford University in 1980, about 2 million people in the United States were under some kind of criminal justice supervision. By 2000, the figure had jumped to about 6 million, the jump is largely attributed to the governmentââ¬â¢s ongoing war on drugs. The ââ¬Å"Warâ⬠is not stopping people from using drugs, just a program to watse money. If I was able to in charge of a country I would try to make drug use legal.à By having drugs legal the crime rate will drop because people can buy them legally for cheap money. I would also set an age limit on people that could use drug. This way kids will know when they grow up they will have a chance to try it, that will decrease youth drug use. Lastly, I would set a limit on how much people could buy. By setting this restriction drug use wont able to harm people as much as before. These laws could help out to country.

African American women in goverment essays
African American women in goverment essays If we were to analyze the annals of history, we would discover and uncover so many interesting events that contribute to the Unites States of America, that we all call home today. Looking in the past and seeing Neil Armstrong take his first steps on the moon would tantalize our minds with discovery. Or watching with horror and disbelief as we see Japan sweep over Pearl Harbor. If we peered a little deeper, we would see that African-American women have been pioneers and trailblazers in our government. They have made outstanding accomplishments and broken through so many barriers. Women like Johnnie Gibson, Jane Bolin, and Carol Braun have made astonishing changes in our government and on how the world views African-American women. Jonnie Mae Gibson was the first African-American female undercover agent to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (McClure 1). Johnnie Gibson was born on March 1, 1979 in Caryville, Florida (McClure 2). Gibson grew up and received her early education in Florida (2). After graduating from high school, she continued her education and received an Associate degree in Nursing at Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida (2). In the year of 1968, Gibson earned her bachelors degree from Albany State College (2). She advanced even more in her studies and received her masters degree in education from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia in 1976 (2). Gibson then started working for the police department in Albany, Georgia (McClure 2). She worked for Albany Police Department for three years and then she received news from the F.B.I. (2). After four to six months of background investigation, she was informed that she had two weeks to prepare before she went away to F.B.I. training in Quantico, Virginia (2). Gibson had a difficult decision to make, would she stay in Albany where she was comfortable or go somewhere where she knew life would not be so placid. Gibson prepared herself to ...

Sleazy and slazy
Sleazy and slazy Sleazy and slazy Sleazy and slazy By Maeve Maddox Sleezy is given in both the OED and Merriam-Webster as an alternate spelling of sleazy, but the only standard pronunciation of sleazy is /slÃâzÃâ/, with a long e. NOTE: the pronunciation [slà zÃâ] can be found in dialect. It can also be documented in the works of American writers of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Presently, however, the long e pronunciation is the standard on both sides of the Atlantic. Since Id never heard sleazy pronounced slazy, I snapped to attention when I heard a character on a television program say that something done by another character was slazy. The other character repeated the word as slazy. Unfortunately, I have no way to double check, but it seemed to me that the context called for sleazy in its sense of filthy, sordid, depraved. But I would have assumed that because the program was Rules of Engagement and the speakers were the extremely sleazy characters Jeff and Russell. The word sleazy entered the language in the 1640s as a textile term with the meaning hairy, fuzzy. In the 1660s it took on the meaning flimsy, unsubstantial. The word was applied to fabrics that were lacking in body, what wed call flimsy. From there it was used to describe anything lacking in substance and eventually took on the meanings dilapidated, filthy, slatternly, squalid; sordid, depraved, disreputable, worthless. The back formation sleaze meaning person of low moral standards is a recent coinage. The earliest example given in the OED is dated 1976. Sleazebag is attested in 1981. Here are some examples of current usage: I used to have a purple paisley polyester pull-overâ⬠¦ that made me feel 70s sleazyâ⬠¦ â⬠¦this place is in NO WAY a restaurantall you have to do is look at the fliers he puts up and you would know its a sleazy nightclub!! Sleazy Antics of ESPN Stars How do I stop a sleazy journalist from using my name? An internet search brought up numerous examples of the word slazy. A few are misspellings of sleazy, but most reflect a new coinage based on the word lazy. Here are two examples in which slazy is a misspelling for sleazy: the places where this happens are slazy, unattractive developments which encourage low-quality behaviour. these companies morph from slazy little back alley rooms to full service brightly lit and beautifully appointed offices.. Although the word slazy as a synonym for lazy has not yet made it into the major dictionaries, it is mentioned in the Urban Dictionary. One definition describes it as a combination of sleepy and lazy; another as a slack+lazy. Im not sure what its supposed to mean as the blog title of a get-rich-quick site called Slazy Cash. Perhaps just lazy. I rather like the definition given by blogger Katie Richardson whose husband created slazy as a combination of the intensifier so and lazy to give the meaning extremely lazy. Her husband used it to describe the behavior of a man who used his GPS to find a house whose location was already familiar to him. She applies it to behavior motivated by brainless over-reliance on technology. Used as a spelling or pronunciation for sleazy, slazy is a misspelling and a mispronunciation. Used as a cutesy word for the standard word lazy, slazy has little to recommend it. Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? Ethics and the Criminal Justice Profession Case Study
Ethics and the Criminal Justice Profession - Case Study Example He fails to document this information." (Rothlein, 2007). This case shows that evidence has been discarded that may or may not affect the case. It is not within the bounds of the detective to determine that. All evidence must be disclosed. This case essentially tells how important the Brady v Maryland case is in the everyday job of the police officer or investigator. This in many ways is a difficult question to answer. No one wants to be held to a higher standard than those around them. However, I again quote the Law Enforcement Code of Ethics. In paragraph two it says: "I will keep my private life unsullied, as an example to all: I will be exempletory in obeying the laws of the land and the regulations of my department."(Law Enforcement Code of Ethics). If we do not hold the police officer at a higher standard than what might that affect when it comes time to prosecute a criminal If the arresting officer is known to indulge in drug abuse off duty and then arrests someone for doing the same while on duty, how does he justify that Because it is the law.

Organization Development Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Organization Development - Essay Example essful with the organization he or she should change and start treating workers or the employees in a very respective way and as a result the employees will also handle customers in a very good way, these changes will eventually result into the positive growth of the company. Employees change on how they treat customers is an external change and for it to materialize there should be a change internally (Reese, 1995). On the other hand the change in performance in management model provides a clear balance on how this should be done and how they should be done3 in order to improve the workers performance ideally this practices has been successful in dealing with the management in terms of the operatic side of the business with the aim of getting maximum results. However organization development is normally driven by the need for effective change in the organization but this change has to begin with change of individuals within the organization. The problem solving model should always b e put into consideration and it should also focus on the future. Change in the entire organization is meant to bring out a difference both internally and externally. Internally change must start from the management staff, meaning that the managers should come up with appropriate ways of dealing with the employees in the organization. Generally managers should lead by example which is in relation to creation of very calm and conducive environment for both the employees and the customers, this will allow the organization to grow and reach its mission and vision. Employees should also embrace change inside the organization by implementing their duties as expected of them; this will enhance effective development of the organization and a quick realization of its goals. (Allen & Thatcher, 1995)Employees embracing new changes in the organization will result into team work within the organization therefore this will enhance faster growth of the organization. Change should also be welcomed
